Whether for personal reasons, work or even trying to start an online business, all that sitting is putting your lower back under a tremendous amount of strain. This will lead to frequent bouts of back pain and if not dealt with can become chronic.
What Shape are your abdominal muscles in?
When you sit for long periods of time, especially if you are hunched over a keyboard, the abdominal muscles will contract and actually shorten, keeping you in a hunched position! The muscles of your hips and legs will also contract bringing the causes of lower back pain to your back from both ends. Yoga exercises can be the answer to regain the muscle flexibilty and length to make that back pain go away. I would like to make you aware of five special yoga exercises for back pain that will bring you some welcome relief.
1. Seated Trunk Twist – Sitting upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, raise your elbows to shoulder height. Pressing your hands together, slowly inhale deeply and then exhale, twisting your body from one side to the other. Begin your twist from the base of your spine, keeping your back straight and inhaling as you return to center. Repeat this twist four to five times for each side.
The other four special yoga exercises include the seated cobra, the seated cat stretch, the upward arm stretch and the seated spinal twist. I will go into more detail about these in future posts or you can look them up on your favorite search engine.
